Q & A
Life events such as childbirth, menopause, or even losing weight causes drastic changes to your body, including your vagina. It’s common for women to experience unpleasant symptoms caused by weakened vaginal tissues and bladder support, or vaginal irritation and atrophy.
Vaginal atrophy (often due to lack of estrogen) can cause physical discomfort during sex and exercise as well as embarrassment from noticeably loose skin. These symptoms can seriously affect your desire for intimacy and your overall quality of life. Votiva offers a non-hormonal and non-surgical way to restore tissue hydration and elasticity.
As a compassionate OB/GYN, Dr. Kerr offers women an opportunity to restore their youthful vaginal tissues and intimate relationships with Votiva. Votiva has earned FDA approval for significant improvement for women of all ages with stress urinary incontinence (leaking with exercise, coughing, sneezing, laughing) and dyspareunia (pain during sex), whether it be to low estrogen and atrophy, changes from childbirth or episiotomy, lichen sclerosis, recurrent bacterial vaginosis and pH disruption, or vaginismus.
Votiva is a nonsurgical, noninvasive feminine wellness treatment that uses advanced bipolar radiofrequency (RF) technology. Unlike laser vaginal revitalization treatments like Mona Lisa, Votiva has a built-in safety shutoff system to maintain therapeutic frequencies and prevent overheating. The bipolar radiofrequency focuses energy to generate new collagen, new elastin, and new blood flow to the vaginal tissues, the labia, and the pelvic floor.
Dr. Kerr uses both Votiva with or without FractoraV to improve external vaginal tissue tone. The Votiva FormaV handpiece delivers gentle RF energy into your vaginal tissues and the FractoraV extends that energy more deeply through microneedling. This encourages your body to make more collagen and elastin, resulting in tight and well-toned vaginal tissues. It also lightens darker pigmentation, improves sensitivity, and restores pH balance for healthier tissue.
Votiva may be right for you if excess loose skin around your vagina negatively affects your physical or emotional wellbeing. This treatment revitalizes your vagina without surgery, scarring, or downtime for recovery.
Also, vaginal laxity is common after time, childbirth, and menopause, but many women also experience these symptoms as a result of weight loss or hormonal changes. If changes to your vagina have reduced your desire to have sex or participate in your favorite activities, Dr. Kerr may recommend Votiva to improve your quality of life.
First, Dr. Kerr performs a physical and pelvic exam and carefully reviews your medical history to make sure Votiva and/or FractoraV is right for you.
During treatment, Dr. Kerr applies the Votiva FormaV handpiece and/or FractoraV handpiece internally to the vaginal wall and to the outer folds of your vagina (labia). Votiva treatment isn’t painful, but you may feel a deep warming sensation as the device sends RF energy into your tissues. Topical lidocaine is used if FractoraV is performed.
Votiva doesn’t require downtime for recovery, so you can go back to work and resume normal activities right after your appointment. Treatments typically last 20 minutes.
Most women notice an immediate improvement after only one Votiva treatment with results continuing to improve over the next 6-8 weeks and the tissues renew. In research and development, three sessions spaced 3-4 weeks apart produced the best results in long term studies.
